Rare Swan Press Presents
THE KARI ANN FLICKINGER MEMORIAL LITERARY PRIZE 2023
Rare Swan Press is thrilled to host the inaugural biennial Kari Ann FLickinger Memorial Literary Prize, in memory of poet, artist and musician, Kari Flickinger ( August 16, 1983 – May 2, 2022).
The competition is under the very generous financial patronage of Kari’s partner, Bill Abney, without whose support, this prize and opportunity to celebrate Kari Flickinger’s artistry and her contribution to the broader literary community, would not be possible.
The winning entrant will receive $1500 and publication. The four selected finalists, will each receive $250.00 and a LITERATI MAGAZINE Portfolio, published in a special Literati Magazine edition. Open to submissions of poetry chapbooks from around the world, we particularly welcome submissions from older poets.

CEILING FAN tragically, turned out to be Kari Flickinger’s last collection. She unexpectedly passed away suddenly on May 2nd, in the ER. We share this sorrowful loss with her dearest and nearest and commiserate with all those in the poetry community who knew her so well. She will be sorely missed.
CEILING FAN book is an inventive, gutsy foray into the the inner emotional-scape of a woman coming to grips with her emotional turmoil in the aftermath of complex and dislocating relationships. At odds with the ‘narrator-self’ as much as in conflict with events and choices occurring around her, Kari isn’t shy about taking us, her readers on an intimate journey of boredom, lust, despair, rage and reconciliation, in what we come to recognise as only too familiar feelings of experiences we all share, in one guise or another. This remarkable work is over ten years in the making and yet, reads as an intimate conversation of the moment.
